  I took my daughter for a revaluation after an infection that wasn't getting better. Turns out she needed another antibiotic. The past few times i have been to the clinic my daughter has been seen by Dr. Calvin. He is very gentle and kind to my daughter, who is super shy with strangers. Dr. Calvin realized my daughter is scared and talked softly and treated her respectfully and she, not happily, but nevertheless did comply to what he asked. This past visit my daughter was seen by Dr. Copeland. Needless to say the experience was absolutely awful. As a doctor, he is perfectly knowledgeable. As a pediatrician(who should be aware of how they interact with children) he is less than sub par. Immediately upon entering the room he talked very loudly to my 4 yr. old daughter who right away closed her eyes and covered her ears. My daughter is scared of doctors because of a previous experience with stitches. The doctor has to win her trust and she is compliant but acts super scared. It seemed that Dr. Copeland treated my daughter with utmost disrespect, and didn't allow me to even talk to her to get her to open her mouth to look in her throat. He kept talking loudly at her and wanted to hold her down and force her mouth open. He was really rough with her and seemed like she was annoying him. The thing that really made me upset was when he told her it was her fault she was back at the doctors. What!! The bacteria was resistant to the antibiotic. A pediatrician of all people should know how perceptive and impressionable children are. This whole week I've been telling my daughter the bugs in her throat are not her fault and the nasty medicine will kill those bugs. It certainly is not my daughters fault that the infection is not responding to the prescribed medication. All in all, Dr. Copeland obviously doesn't deal well with children who are shy. That said if your child is very sensitive I would not recommend seeing him.

  I have had nothing but amazing experiences at this clinic. The staff are all very friendly and great to work with. When we have appointments scheduled, they always start on time. I've heard horror stories about other pediatric offices where people have an hour past their appointment time to be seen... not here! They've also been great about squeezing us in for urgent appointments when my son has been sick. On top of that, their New Bern office is open 7 days a week and they have a 24 hour urgent call number so that you can speak to a doctor if something happens. The only way I'll stop using Coastal Childrens' is if I move out of state... and I'll still miss them dearly!
